The new building fits into the objectives of the Brussels-Capital Region in terms of renovating and reinvigorating the whole European district. Those objectives include a greater mixture of functions and a more pronounced ‘citizen friendly’ urban approach. This approach involves the creation of a newly-built piazza equipped with a landscaped public area, along with an interior garden visible from the street via a vast 5-storey glassed-enclosed atrium. Moreover, this building has to meet the objectives of the “Projet Urbain Loi”, which is the renovation and revitalization project of the quarter, drawn by the Brussels Region. This means that the building needs to be more open for the citizens, and has to have different functions (not only offices). In this case, the building has got a “piazza” , being a living area, and a public zone, with an inside garden behind the glass partition of five floors high.
The building located at Rue de la Science 15-17, in the heart of the European district, is to undergo a total renovation by owners Cofinimmo.
